2024 Ford Mustang set for September reveal – report

The latest generation of Ford’s iconic muscle car will reportedly be revealed at this year’s Detroit motor show in September ahead of Australian showroom arrivals next year.

the 2024 Ford Mustang is due to be revealed in September, ahead of first Australian showroom arrivals next year.

Industry publication Automotive News reports Ford will unveil the seventh-generation Mustang at this year’s Detroit motor show, due to be held from September 14 to 25.

The new Mustang’s global debut will come seven years after the model’s last major update in 2015, followed by a facelift launched in 2018.

Internally known as the ‘S650’, the new Ford Mustang will replace the outgoing ‘S550’ model but carry across a number of mechanical parts from its predecessor, such as the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and 5.0-liter V8 engines.

The six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic transmissions which are currently available for Ford Mustang are also expected to be retained.

Overseas reports have suggested the next Mustang will be the first in the model’s history to offer a hybrid option, however Ford has not confirmed this.

Ford Australia is yet to confirm a local arrival date for the new Mustang, although it has hinted at an upcoming launch – expected to occur as soon as next year.

“We’ve previously said the all-new seventh-generation Mustang is on the way and we can’t wait to share more details soon,” a Ford Australia spokesperson told Drive.

It’s expected the S650 Mustang’s body will be used for the ‘Gen3’ race car for the Supercars racing series, set to make its debut on the track at the Newcastle 500 in March 2023.
