Entertainment reporter Peter Ford broke the news on 3AW radio on Monday morning and FOXTEL, Network 10, and Endemol Shine Australia followed with a joint statement.

“We are unbelievably saddened to hear of the passing of Di Kershaw,” the statement read.

“For the past eight years we were privileged to have her luminescent character make us chuckle with her sardonic wit, crackling laugh and her impeccable style on Gogglebox.

“From everyone at FOXTEL, Network 10, and Endemol Shine Australia we extend our condolences and love to husband Mick and the rest of the family.

“Thank you for letting us share the warmth, humor and heart of your wife, mother, and grandmother.”

The statement concluded with a fitting footnote.

“Di would always sign off correspondence with ‘Pleasure Treasure’, but the pleasure was all ours and we will treasure it forever,” it ended.

Ford told 3AW that Di had been sick “for a couple of months” before her death.

Daily Mail reported that the beloved star did not share news of her health battle with anyone beyond those close to her.

“She didn’t feel well a few months ago and (Mick) took her to their doctor,” a friend told the publication.

“After many tests and specialists, they discovered a tumor in her throat that was inoperable.

“That was when she decided not to tell anyone and just spend quality time with their family.”

How did Mick and Di meet?

Di and Mick met on Sydney’s Northern Beaches when Di was aged 17, according to the duo’s bio on Foxtel.

“Di, a former model, convinced Mick to give up his high-flying career as an advertising executive in order to follow their passion for art,” the bio reads.

In 2020, Di was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her long service to the visual arts.

Say leaves behind two grown-up children, Victoria and Alex.

In a previous interview with Foxtel in April 2021, Di revealed that despite being on Gogglebox for many years, some of her daughter’s friends didn’t know who she was.

“It’s really funny because it was my birthday recently and my daughter put up a photo of me on Facebook, wishing me a happy birthday,” she told the network.

“Someone wrote a message under the photo that said, ‘I didn’t realize the woman from Gogglebox was your mum!’
