Exciting teenage center Deine Mariner has been named to make his NRL debut for the Brisbane Broncos in the Round 20 clash with the Wests Tigers on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium.
The 19-year-old speedster, who made an instant impact in Brisbane’s early preseason trials, has continued that strong form for Broncos Affiliate Wynnum Manly Seagulls across the Hostplus Cup this season with eight tries in seven games, 34 tackle breaks and an average 143 running metres.
He will start in the centers against the Tigers alongside Seagulls teammate Delouise Hoeter who earns another NRL start on the wing in the absence of Jordan Pereira (illness) and Selwyn Cobbo, who remains on the sidelines as the club takes an extra-cautious approach in the young finisher’s recovery from a head knock in the State Of Origin decider.
Elsewhere, hooker Billy Walters returns to the starting team after overcoming a hip complaint that sidelined him last week’s win over the Eels at Parramatta that propelled the Broncos into the top 4 with six regular season rounds remaining.
Prop Thomas Fgleler has retained his spot in the starting front row after a big opening stint against the Eels, with Corey Jensen named on the interchange in the No.16 jersey.
Walters’ return means Jake Turpin moves to an extended bench, as does Brenko Lee with Mariner’s debut.
