Three people critically injured after tubing accident near Omaha

Three people were injured after a tubing accident at Bennington Lake on Monday morning, according to authorities. Around 11 am, officers responded to Bennington Lake, which is located near N 180th Street and Pawnee Road, for a water rescue. Two juveniles and an adult suffered “very traumatic injuries” when the tube that they were struck on a bridge, according to Douglas County Sheriff Wayne Hudson. Two people were taken by ambulance, another was flown by helicopter to the hospital. “It’s looking like some spinal injuries, some lower extremity injuries and maybe some brain injuries,” Hudson said. Hudson says right now, it appears a juvenile was driving the boat and a man was also on board. Deputies took the boat away on a trailer.”We did seize a boat right now for investigative purposes so we’re interviewing individuals that were driving the boat trying to determine what exactly happened and what caused that accident,” Hudson said.Law enforcement told KETV NewsWatch 7 that two people are in critical condition. The condition of the third person is not known at this time. The incident is under investigation. We’re still waiting to learn the age of the person driving the boat. Nebraska law says anyone operating a boat or watercraft has to be at least 14 years old and you have to be 16 or older if you’re pulling someone behind you.
